For 20 minutes in my backyard, I watched a serene bobcat relax under a bush by the grass, her eyes closed unless I made a sound — then after a few seconds, her eyes would again drift closed. She cared little about my presence, and I even had time to go back into the house and get my more powerful zoom lens. Suddenly, her ears perked up, her eyes flashed open, her head turned, and she was off like a rocket, with a clear purpose and target in mind.
