Staircase in Cuchara Morning Sun

image is available for purchase

Colorado clouds are quite often astonishing, and a favorite of mine is when there are three or four distinct layers of clouds where each layer is a different type of cloud moving in a different direction. But in this case, there was only one layer, but it seemed to want to mirror and imitate the stepped shape of The Staircase (a dike wall). The rich blue sky above the cloud seemed in full agreement with the idea, and it let the cloud have a solo display in the sky.

Staircase in Cuchara Morning Sun
The image centers on a large, stair-stepped rock outcropping which is visually mirrored by a similarly shaped cloud above it. A golden meadow is in front, framed by trees to right and left, with a rich blue sky above.© Randy Heffner inspect image detail »
